Our school is part of a growing number of schools leading the way for more school-led teacher training (School Direct) .This is really important to us because it means we can choose the very best talent and develop those people into teachers. Being able to choose who we train as teachers helps us in delivering the best outcomes for our students. As a member of our community you would have access to a full teaching and learning professional development programme and personalised support.
At Learning Futures Partnership we take the lead role in developing you as a teacher. You will have the opportunity to work alongside the very best teachers during both your placements and training sessions. Our School Direct Course can give you unique insights into what Excellence in Teaching really looks like. You will develop into not only an outstanding classroom teacher but also a future leader of education. The high quality training during your School Direct year will enable you to make a real difference to the lives of young people.

- QTS (Qualified Teacher Status)
- PGCE with Masters credits
School Direct/University of Cumbria
All trainees must pass tests in Literacy and Numeracy prior to starting their course in September. It is also desirable that all applicants have some school experience e.g. observation.
PGCE Secondary School Direct:
- GCSE in Mathematics and English Language Grade C or above.
- Degree classification of 2:2 or above
- Degree must be in related academic subject area.

Subject knowledge enhancement (SKE) programmes help you gain the depth of knowledge you'll need to teach your chosen subject.
If you have the right qualities to become a teacher but you need to up your subject knowledge before you start training, we will talk you through the range of SKE programmes that are available. There are currently programmes available for the following secondary-phase subjects;
Biology, Chemistry, Computing, English, French, Geography, German, Maths, Physics and Spanish.

One of the best ways to find out whether a career in teaching is right for you is to spend some time in a classroom and speak to experienced teachers and school staff. During this time you will have the opportunity to observe outstanding teaching, meet with current trainees and gain essential advice regarding the next steps on your journey. You will have the opportunity to speak to pupils first hand and gain an insight into how rewarding a career in teaching can be. Learning Futures Partnership are committed to Teacher Training, we are eager to support future teachers, helping them gain experience in a supportive and friendly environment. We have a number of taster days throughout the year but can also provide School Experience days that work around you.

On our School Direct Course you will have the opportunity to work in two contrasting placement schools. When you start your teacher training course, you will be allocated your own Subject Mentor. Our mentors are highly trained, outstanding teachers that will provide you with personalised coaching and support. In addition to this you will receive added support from your Professional Mentor. Mentors are here to make sure that your training is the best it can be and to help you grow and develop as a professional. Alongside your mentors in school The University of Cumbria has an excellent team of professional consultants who are linked to your training placement and work with you on a one-to-one basis supporting you in all aspects of your training.
This means that by the end of the year you will be fully equipped with the skills needed to work in any school. You will have the understanding needed to continue your professional development, foster your own passion for learning and be happy and successful in your teaching career.
During your training year you will receive outstanding professional development sessions provided by staff working across our family of Alliance Schools. This research based training ensures that you have an effective understanding of Teaching and Learning so that you can make a real difference in your own classrooms.
You will have the opportunity to continue to develop your own subject specific knowledge, linking this to the wider curriculum. .
