At the Learning Futures Partnership, we take the lead role in developing you as a teacher. You will have the opportunity to work alongside the very best teachers during both your placement and training sessions. Our School Direct course will give you unique insights into what teaching really looks like. You will develop into not only an excellent classroom teacher, but also the potential to be a future leader of education. The high quality training during your School Direct year will enable you to make a real difference to the lives of young people.

Once you have secured your place with the Learning Futures Partnership, you will be guaranteed placement at one of our schools and will be considered a member of staff from the start.

On our School Direct course, you will have the opportunity to work in two contrasting placement schools. When you start your teacher training course, you will be allocated your own subject mentor and will be a fully fledged member of the university. Our mentors are highly trained teachers, who will provide you with personalised coaching and support. In addition to this you will receive support from your professional mentors.

Mentors are here to make sure that your training is the best it can be and to help you grow and develop as a professional. Alongside your mentors, the University of Cumbria has an excellent team of of professional consultants who are linked to your training placement, who will work with you on a one-to-one basis, supporting you in all aspects of your training.

Working with the LFP, you will be on placement in school or college for the first half of the week, with most Thursdays and Fridays  set aside for more focused training either in Wigan, or at the University of Cumbria Lancaster campus. There are several written assignments throughout the year, as well as on going assessment of your classroom based practice. Teaching and mentoring is supportive, constructive and because of the smaller size of our alliance, your learning needs are catered for in a bespoke package. We have the time and capacity to get to know you as individuals, to work with you on your particular areas of development, and to make sure you are thriving and progressing as the academic year unfolds.

This means that by the end of the year you will be fully equipped with the skills needed to work in any school. You will have the understanding needed to continue your professional development, foster your own passion for learning, be happy and successful in your teaching career.

During your teacher training year, you will receive excellent professional development sessions provided by staff working across our family of alliance schools. This research based training ensures that you have the effective understanding of teaching and learning so that you can make a real difference in your own classrooms.

You will have the opportunity to continue your own subject specific knowledge, linking this to the wider curriculum.
